Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan attended a meeting of the National Coordination Committee chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan via video link here on Wednesday to review the overall situation of the country in context with COVID-19, recent rainfalls, floods and reopening of educational institutions. Referring to the situation in Balochistan, the Chief Minister said that the provincial government was developing a comprehensive mechanism for initiating the educational process in educational institutions in the province. A steering committee comprising representatives of Education Department, UNICEF, PDMA, private sector schools and religious seminaries has been formed. Teachers on SOPs have been trained on corona virus protective measures in government schools, the Chief Minister said that the education of children in Balochistan is more dependent on government schools than the private sector where a large number of children are studying. The Chief Minister further informed that due to closure of hostels, students from Balochistan studying in other provinces have returned to their home areas and could not avail online classes due to limited internet facilities in Balochistan. Referring to the current situation of Corona virus, the Chief Minister said that the People in Balochistan have different views on the virus and are not taking the precautions more seriously as the spread of the virus has decreased. However, the provincial government is taking steps to make the public aware of the precautions and ensure their implementation. Regarding the security of Ashura Muharram, the Chief Minister said that he had recently convened a high level meeting at the Central Police Office to review the security arrangements and SOPs of Corona virus precautionary measures and finalized them. Fool-proof security of Ashura Muharram processions is being ensured in the province. The Chief Minister informed about the situation arising out of recent rains which badly affected highways, roads and infrastructure in some other districts besides Naseerabad and Sibi Division. While the water reserves in the dams have also increased manifold which are being monitored continuously, the Chief Minister said that government agencies are taking steps to deal with the situation created by rains and floods but relief and rehabilitation activities asks for support of Federal Government as well. The rehabilitation of national highways and improvement of power system also requires the support of NDMA, National Highway Authority and QESCO. The Prime Minister assured that the federal government would extend all possible assistance to the provincial government. Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Lango, Chief Secretary Balochistan Fazil Asghar, IG Police Mohsin Hassan Butt and secretaries of relevant departments were also present in the meeting.
