A meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan reviewed the progress on development schemes of Livestock and Dairy Development, issues related to establishment of Poultry Livestock and Model Cattle Farm. Provincial minister for livestock department Mr Mitha khan ,Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Abdul Rehman Bazdar, Secretary Livestock Tayyab Lahri, Information Secretary Shah Irfan Gharshin and other concerned officials including DG Livestock participated in the meeting. Briefing on implementation, progress on development schemes, livestock potential of the province, dairy development, poultry, role of livestock in the economy of the province, investment in livestock sector under public-private mode and related legislation has been given by the secretary live stock department.The meeting was informed that there are a total of 34 development projects in the development program for the financial year 2020-21, including the ongoing, new and joint venture schemes of the department. The chief minister has directed that steps should be taken to increase the production of sheep, buffaloes, cows and camels. He said that protection of natural pastures is also important in this regard. The Chief Minister said that there is a huge market for organic meat in the world which can be used to strengthen the economy of the province and export meat and other livestock products in partnership with big companies. Instructing the concerned authorities to expand the research in this field, he said that the Animal Science Institute of Quetta should be linked with other similar institutes of the country and a breed of sheep, cows and camels should be bred in the province. In line with the environment, the Chief Minister directed the Secretary Livestock to inform the Deputy Commissioner of the district where the department lands are located so that these lands could be used for other public purposes besides departmental projects.He said the increase in population has also increased the demand for meat and milk. He said that In the districts of the province which have a suitable and conducive climate in this regard, animal husbandry is essential. The Chief Minister said that 70 per cent of the population of the province is engaged in livestock and agriculture. New research in this area will also make it possible to breed different new breeds of animals.
