A performance review meeting of Balochistan Institute of Nephrology and Endurology was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan. With the support of Fatmeed Foundation, kidney transplant has been started in the institute and so far 38 free transplant operations have been carried out free of cost, all of which have been successful, he said, adding that the institute has a 4-bed kidney transplant An ICU has been set up, the cost of a kidney transplant is Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh while the follow-up cost of the operation is Rs 50,000 which is borne by the institute itself for deserving patients, he said. Equipped with T-scans as well as other state-of-the-art machines, Cardiology, Gynecology, General Surgical and Nutrition services are being provided here, as well as capacity building training courses and research for doctors and technicians at the Institute. While standing Video link conferences are being organized from A Khan University Hospital Karachi and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore. The meeting was informed that the institute has organized 4 in Fatima Jinnah Hospital Quetta, 2 in SPH Quetta and 2 in Dera Murad Jamali Hospital. Necessary training has been imparted to the staff at Zhob Hospital, Do Pishin Hospital, Kharan Hospital, Noshki Hospital and Dalbandin Hospital by providing one dialysis machine each. The CEO also informed about the details of other future projects including expansion of the institute. Appreciating the performance of the institute, the Chief Minister said that Balochistan needs such health institutions which can provide modern and affordable medical facilities to the people. The Chief Minister said that the poor people of the province could not afford expensive treatment. However, due to lack of proper diagnosis in private and government hospitals, people have to bear long treatment and expenses, the Chief Minister stressed on the need to perfect the process of diagnosis through research in health institutions, the Chief Minister said. Assurance of full support for resolving financial and other issues It was decided at the meeting that dialysis facilities would be provided in all the district hospitals under the auspices of the institute and the responsibility of running these centers would also be borne by the institute. Parliamentary Health Secretary Dr Rababa Buledi, Health Secretary Dosteen Jamaldini, Finance Secretary Noor ul Haq Baloch, Information Secretary Shah Irfan Gharshin, DG Health and other concerned officials were present.
