Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has directed the agencies working on development projects in various sectors of Quetta to further improve the progress on development projects including Quetta Safe City Project, Quetta Development Package, Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, health and Quetta development authority during Presiding over a high-level meeting on Monday. In this regard the Chief Minister said that key issues in Quetta include sanitation, solid waste management, municipal services, implementation of building codes and Water shortages are at the forefront and need to be addressed on an urgent basis. During a briefing by the PHE and WASA officials on water supply, it was decided that for installation of tube well in the city, Laws will be prepared and legislated and the installation of tube wells in the public sector will be the sole responsibility of WASA while it was decided to form a committee headed by Secretary PHE to review the issues related to water supply in the city. Secretary IT give brief regarding Quetta Safe City project, He said that necessary amendments in PC-1 are in the process of completion to enhance the progress of the project. Under the project, 400 km of fiber optic is being laid in the city and 1403 security cameras will be installed. Legislation for the establishment of Quetta Smart City Authority will also be enacted in the light of the decision of provincial cabinet .The meeting also reviewed the problems and requirements facing the Civil Hospital Quetta and the facilities available in the hospital. It was informed that in the light of the directive of the Chief Minister, the services of consultant firms have been procured to review the construction and repair of the existing building as per the master planning and requirements of the hospital. Secretary health said that at present 23 units are functioning in the hospital. He said that responsibility for better management of each unit and ward has been assigned to the head of department. Including some other development projects The Chief Minister directed immediate release of funds for the construction and expansion project of the causality ward of the Civil Hospital. The Project Director, Quetta Development Package, briefed the meeting regarding the construction and expansion of roads, sports complexes and parks included in the package. He said that work orders have been issued for construction and expansion of four out of eight roads included in the project including Sariab Road, Western Bypass, Sabzal Road and Link Badini Road. The construction projects of six sports complexes are in the process of completion. The Chief Minister also directed to complete the tree planting and drainage system projects on the newly constructed roads as per the standards while he directed construction of dispensaries in each sports complex The meeting was apprised of the details of the progress of legislation for master planning and zoning of the city by the Department of Urban Development and Quetta Development Authority. Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development, Secretary Finance, Secretary Local Government, Secretary PHE, Secretary IT, Secretary Health and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
